    History

    History

    The Belarusian State Institute of Physical Therapy (BSIPT) with a neurologic hospital on 50 beds was established on August 25, 1924.

    In 1930 there was an integration of BSIPT with Minsk orthopedic institutions and in this connection the institute was reorganized into the State institute of physical therapy, orthopedics and neurology (SIPON). 

    During the pre-war period the SIPON was the basis for nervous diseases, physical therapy and orthopedics departments of the Minsk medical institute.

    During the Great Patriotic War the SIPON material resources were completely destroyed, however, it resumed its work on the basis of the 2nd Minsk clinical hospital in 1946.

    In 1949 the neurosurgical department was founded at the institute, so it was renamed into the Belarusian scientific research institute of neurology, neurosurgery and physical therapy.

    In 1982 and 1984 the Institute took the 1st place among the research collectives of the country following the results of the All-Union socialist competition, and its collective was awarded by the passing Red Banner and noted by premiums by the Board of the Ministry of Health of the USSR and the Presidium of the Central Committee of the health workers labor union for the achieved success, and in 1987 and 1989 it achieved the Certificates of honor.

    In 1994 the group of scientists of the institute (I.P. Antonov, G. K. Nedzved, V. Ya. Latysheva, A.F. Smeyanovich, S. D. Bezzubik) received the State award of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science for the cycle of scientific works "The Pathogenesis, Clinics and Diagnostics of Neurologic Manifestations of a Backbone Osteochondrosis”.

    The State award of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and equipment was issued to E.S. Kashitsky for active participation in researches on physiological and medical effect of the mineral waters within the comprehensive republican program in 1998.

    The state institute “Scientific research institute of neurology of neurosurgery and physical therapy” of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus was renamed into the state institution "Republican scientific and practical center of neurology and neurosurgery" of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus since October 1, 2005 by the order of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus No. 504 of September 9, 2005.

    The center received a new clinical base for neurologic departments and scientific laboratories, and in 2007 its capital reconstruction with construction of the new operational and resuscitation module began. In those years the work on the revival of such directions as endovascular, functional and stereotactic neurosurgery in the republic was sped up.

    In 2012 the construction and reconstruction of the Center, its technological re-equipment were successfully complete. The improvement of the quality of diagnostics and rendering highly specialized neurologic and neurosurgical medical care through the introduction of new technologies was the main purpose of carrying out reconstruction.

    All conditions for development of neurologic and neurosurgical science, innovative development and introduction of import-substituting and essentially new diagnostic and medical technologies are created In the Center. The organizational, methodical and clinical guidance for a solution of significant medical problems of the state by neurologic and neurosurgical service of the republic is provided.
