    Consultative outpatient department

    Consultative outpatient department (COD) is a unit of the Republican Research and Clinical Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery.

    The Department is working since the opening of Clinical center (since the 25th of March 2005) and provides consultations of high quality in the areas of neurology and neurosurgery to the patients all over the Belarus. The main indications for referral of patients to the COD are provided in the "Specification of the order of patients’ referral for consultation and treatment in the Republican Research and Clinical Center of Neurology and Neurosurgery" (The order of Ministry of Health №167 from 15.04.2005).

    Consultations are provided on the request of medical institutions of Belarus (with referrals) or on paid basis without referrals. The reason for referral is usually the need to clarify a diagnosis in a complicated case, atypical course of the disease, the absence of clinical response to the treatment, primary diagnostics of certain diseases.

    The Department has a system of preliminary arrangement of appointments. The Republican Myasthenia Gravis Center, as well as Epileptic and Paroxysmal Disorders Center are working on the basis of Consultative outpatient department.

    The doctors of the Department provide consultations to foreigners in such neurological diseases as dystonia, myasthenia, inflammatory, vascular and demyelinating diseases of nervous system, vestibular and other balance disorders.

    The patients are able to get the consultation of neurologists, neurosurgeons, otoneurologist, general practitioner, psychiatrist, ophthalmologists, psychologist. Specialized doctors provide consultations to the inpatient department besides seeing patients in COD. 

    The doctors of the Department:

    Shchurevich Maya – neurologist (the chief of the department), PhD (candidate of medical sciences).

    Dedovets Mihail – neurologist, the highest category of qualification;

    Vitkovsky Fedor – neurologist, the second category of qualification;

    Shved Svetlana – general practitioner;

    Naumovskaya Natalia – psychiatrist, the second category of qualification;

    Dymkovskaya Marina – psychologist, the first category of qualification.


    The Department cooperates with other units of the Center to provide complex and thorough examination of patients in order to improve diagnostics.

    During a visit patient may be consulted by additional specialists as needed (neurosurgeon, neurologist, general practitioner, psychiatrist, ophthalmologist, psychologist, otoneurologist and others).

    In very complicated cases councils are conducted with participation of specialists with academic degree – professors, candidates and doctors of medical sciences, the leading researchers.

    The conclusion on the diagnosis is made after the examinations, the treatment is prescribed and recommendations are given for follow up in local medical center. If the case is unclear the patient might be hospitalized to the inpatient departments of the Center.

    During a visit patients undergo screening for high-tech operations, such as indications and contraindications for stereotactic neurosurgery in Parkinson’s disease, for neurosurgery in epilepsy, trigeminal neuralgia, chronic pain. The neurological status is determined during functional examination, the monitoring of patients state, treatment correction after the neurosurgery are provided. The treatment is prescribed according to contemporary local and international guidelines.

    The doctors of the Department take part in scientific work, technical and clinical events: conferences, schools, seminars, symposiums.

    The time of patient consulting in the department is from 9 am to 2 pm in working days. Saturday, Sunday – day off.
